Pioneering Scientific Research

Glomar Minerals leverages decades of industry investment in technology and research across the entire value chain to increase efficiency, reduce risk, and minimize environmental impact

Exploration
Technologies

To map and explore nodule location and abundance, vessel based multibeam sonars in combination with AUV mounted multibeam sonars will be used for overall topography and large area abundance mapping. Glomar Minerals’ technology will enable a more efficient mapping of nodule abundance, reducing the environmental footprint on the seabed and significantly reducing vessel days. In addition, an ROV carried sampling storage skid will allow for the collection of both, geotechnical and environmental data in the same operation, where up to 100 sampling sites can be accommodated during one ROV dive.

Harvesting
Technologies

To harvest nodules, Glomar Minerals will leverage the relevant experience transfer from the deep sea and offshore industries to reduce technology risk in an emerging space. Both collection technology and vertical transportation technology are selected to support efficiency and long-term exposure to the deep sea environment.

Processing
Technologies

Glomar Minerals has collaborated with partners to develop a metallurgical flowsheet to extract high yields from nodules, producing key metal and chemical products. Glomar plans to bring into business a commercial-scale polymetallic processing facility suited for a variety of critical minerals. Glomar will process nodules while producing near-zero waste/tailings.
